A Perfect NYC Escape 🌊
At the Asbury Park Dog Beach in New Jersey was just what our souls needed
When you live in New York City, a true dog beach can feel like a dream. That’s why one of our favorite getaways is the Asbury Park Dog Beach—just a quick drive away, but it feels like a whole new world for both people and pups.
The beach itself is a haven: sand for digging, waves for splashing, and plenty of room for zoomies. For city dogs used to concrete sidewalks and small parks, it’s the ultimate freedom. And for us, it’s the perfect excuse to breathe salty ocean air and let the city melt away for a few hours.
A couple of tips if you’re planning your first visit:
- Book in advance. The city requires a seasonal dog license/permit to use the beach, and spots can sell out quickly during peak months.
- Plan around the hours. Dogs are welcome during off-peak times—usually early mornings and evenings—which also means you’ll enjoy cooler weather, fewer crowds, and even prettier skies.
- Pack the essentials. Towels, water bowls, treats, and maybe a portable shade tent if you’re staying for a while.
For New Yorkers, it’s an easy escape that feels like a mini vacation—complete with sand between your toes and a very tired, very happy pup in the backseat on the ride home.
