Our Must-Have Grooming Tools for Bernedoodles
Struggling to keep your Bernedoodle looking like the fluffball you fell in love with? Here’s our tried-and-true grooming routine that helps keep mats at bay and the teddy bear look intact.
Because matting is real, and your doodle deserves to look like the Pinterest version of themselves.
If you're already the proud parent of a Bernedoodle, you know the struggle is real. That adorable, fluffy teddy bear coat is part of the charm, but it also requires serious upkeep. Between mats, muddy paws, and "mystery debris" stuck in belly fur, maintaining an iconic mane takes time, effort, and a few too many Amazon purchases. After years of trial and error, these are the grooming products we actually use—and swear by—to keep our girls looking their fluffiest between professional grooms.
Our Favorite Products for Bernedoodle Grooming
1. Chris Christensen Big G Slicker Brush
This is the holy grail brush for doodles. Yes, it’s pricey—but if you're serious about keeping mats at bay, it’s non-negotiable. The long, curved pins glide through dense doodle coats and get deep without irritating their skin. Worth every penny.
After brushing, I always go through with a steel comb to check for sneaky tangles (especially behind the ears and in the armpits). If the comb doesn’t go through smoothly, neither will clippers on grooming day. This step is non-skippable.
3. Hydra Ultra Dematting Spray
This is a recent discovery and it’s changed our detangling game. Lightweight, smells great, and helps loosen mats without a greasy residue. Perfect for spray-and-go brushing sessions.
4. TropiClean Hypoallergenic Dog Shampoo
I love this one for in-between grooms because it's gentle and doesn’t mess with their skin. Bernedoodles can be sensitive, and this formula is mild enough for frequent washes, especially when your pup decides to roll in something “interesting.”
5. Quick-Dry Grooming Blower for Dogs
If you want that glossy, finished look post-brush-out, this is it. It helps condition the coat, reduce static, and leaves them smelling like they just walked out of a bougie spa.
6. Foldable Dog Grooming Table for Home Use
I hesitated on this for years, but having a proper grooming table at home is a game-changer. No more chasing them around the living room with a brush in one hand and a treat in the other. Plus, it saves your back from being hunched over for hours. This one stores away into our closet––perfect for when it's not in use.
7. Espree Lavender Calming Balm for Dog Paws
Trimming nails at home is never fun, but it’s less stressful with the right tools. We start with the clippers and then smooth out any rough edges with a Dremel. (Pro tip: do it when they’re sleepy.)
8. Earth Rated Lavendar-scented Wipes
Not technically a grooming product, but an absolute must if you live in the city—especially NYC, where the sidewalks are... less than pristine. We use these after every single walk to wipe down paws, under-eyes, and yes, the occasional booty fluff. It's the easiest way to keep your pup clean and your apartment from
With the right tools (and a little patience), keeping your Bernedoodle looking fresh between grooms is totally doable.
