Why Every Workday Starts With Fetch O’Clock

Before my first email gets opened, before the coffee even finishes brewing — Beso is already sprinting full speed across the park, a tennis ball in her mouth and a goofy grin on her face.

This is our morning ritual. Rain or shine (and yes, sometimes in full pajama layers under a puffer coat), we head out to the park at the crack of dawn so Beso can get her wiggles out. Living near a public park is one of the best things we could’ve asked for — especially with a high-energy pup like her.

As an F1 mini Bernedoodle, Beso has that perfect storm of brains, energy, and playfulness. She needs stimulation, and if she doesn’t get it… well, let’s just say our furniture and sanity could both be at risk. Tire out the puppy, save the security deposit — that’s the motto.

Every weekday morning, we carve out fetch time before the 9-to-5 grind begins. It’s our little pre-work tradition: she gets to chase and sniff and stretch her legs, and I get a few peaceful minutes of movement before Zoom calls and to-do lists take over. Win-win.

Tiring her out early helps set the tone for the rest of the day. From 9am to 4pm, she mostly snoozes, chews (approved) toys, and keeps things relatively calm. Without that morning burst of energy release? She’s a full-time chaos agent.

There’s no better reminder to slow down and go outside than a dog who lives for her morning park time. And while I joke that it's all about protecting the apartment, truthfully, these morning moments have become one of my favorite parts of the day. Just Beso, a tennis ball, and the sunrise.

Because a tired puppy is a happy puppy — and a happy puppy makes for a much more peaceful work-from-home life.
